Roan

ROAN is a private studio space for hairstylist Rachel Krantz.

For her social media, we wanted to keep it beautiful but real. We achieve this through consistent editing, intentional story telling, and a brand voice that reflects the down-to-earth humor of Rachel herself. Aesthetically, the studio is all white with hints of greenery and gold with curated displays of design, fashion, and photography books; we wanted to mirror these elements on her instagram to allow her clientele to feel as if they were in the studio itself.

The posting on main grid comes in sets of 3; with each row we want to tell a story.
This gives us more space to elaborate on the element(s) we’re trying to highlight
and creates an aesthetically pleasing narrative for the viewer.

Being a hairstylist, the main focus is easy to identify — showcase the hair!
With this storyboard, we wanted to give the clientele a behind the scenes view of the process.
Captioned simply as “—1”, “—1 1/2”, and “—2”. The idea was to let her artistry speak for itself.

Another focus is product. She has three product lines that she carries — Olaplex, Mr. Smith, and David Mallett.
While they all fit seamlessly into the vibe of the salon through packaging and branding, they serve
different functions and clientele. It was important to highlight their respective functions and differences
through educational captions while maintaining the fun and relatable tone.

With her stories, it’s an opportunity for a behind the scenes look at things, as well as an opportunity to educate about
hair, products, and general inspiration for Rachel.

For example, our latest curated story was all about the connection between horses and her perspective of doing hair;
we got to build a collection of imagery that intertwined the natural beauty of horse’s coats and mane and
visually show how that related to her clients hair. The two are very personal for Rachel and it was a
beautiful way to interpret that for her clientele.
